Amazon Prime Video is back with the second season of “Breathe: Into The Shadows,” featuring Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role. Season 1 was a major success, earning Abhishek acclaim for his performance. Let’s see how the second season measures up.
Story:
Season 2 picks up right where the first season left off. The Ravan killer has been confined in a mental asylum for three years. Things take a turn when Victor (Naveen Kasturia) aids in the killer’s escape, reigniting his killing spree and challenging the police department once again. Kabir Sawant (Amit Sadh) is called back to handle the case. The central questions revolve around why Victor helped the killer, whether the killer completes his ten murders, if the police manage to apprehend him, and the safety of Avinash Sabharwal (Abhishek Bachchan) and his family. Positive Aspects:
Abhishek Bachchan delivers an outstanding performance, continuing his impressive work from season 1. His portrayal is nuanced and impactful, effectively capturing the character’s complexities. Naveen Kasturia, known for his role in TVF Pitchers, is a standout addition as the Ravan killer, bringing depth and brilliance to his role. Amit Sadh also shines in his role as a police officer, providing a strong screen presence. Saiyami Kher’s subplot is well-integrated, and Nitya Menen excels in her limited screen time.
The series features well-placed twists, particularly towards the end, which are both shocking and unexpected. The second season’s shorter length compared to the first is an advantage, enhancing the pacing of this crime thriller. The excellent background score further engages viewers.
Negative Aspects:
The series suffers from predictability at several points. Given that season 1 already established the antagonist’s murderous intent, the continuation feels somewhat lacking in fresh surprises. The predictability could have been mitigated with more creative writing. Logical inconsistencies also arise, as the killer repeatedly escapes capture in a manner that stretches believability. The police investigation isn’t as compelling as in the first season, reflecting weaker writing in this area. Additionally, some murders lack sufficient justification, diminishing the emotional impact and making the plot feel stretched.
Technical Aspects:
The production values are high, reflecting significant investment. Karan Kulkarni’s music successfully elevates even ordinary scenes, while S. Bharathwaj’s cinematography is commendable, enhancing the visual appeal of key sequences. Editing by Sumeet Kotian is adequate.
Director Mayank Sharma’s work is a mixed bag this season. While there are commendable elements, the predictability and weaker narration diminish the overall impact. Improved writing and screenplay could have made the season more compelling.

Overall, “Breathe: Into The Shadows” Season 2 features strong performances and some effective twists. However, the predictability, lack of emotional depth, and convenient plot points make it a merely passable watch. It’s worth a try if you enjoy crime dramas.
