Why are these murders happening? Who is behind them? How does police officer Vaishnavi (Shilpa Manjunath) investigate these cases? What is Shiva’s connection to the crimes, and why do the police arrest him? The answers to these questions unfold in the remainder of the story.
Positive Aspects:
The lead actors—Vishwant, Shilpa Manjunath, and Riya Sachdev—give commendable performances, with Vishwant and Shilpa particularly standing out. Shilpa impresses with her portrayal of a confident and serious police officer. The crime scenes and the unexpected twists during the investigation add a decent amount of intrigue. The sequences where the characters find themselves entangled in complex situations and their attempts to escape are reasonably engaging.
Negative Aspects:
Director Basi Reddy Rana tries to captivate the audience with some intense moments in this “gaming crime journey,” but the execution falls short. Several scenes drag, particularly in the first half, where the crime sequences feel repetitive and dull. The director spends too much time introducing the characters, delaying the audience’s engagement with them. The villain’s character, too, lacks depth and impact.
Moreover, the typical crime investigation scenes don’t land well, and the content between the key characters could have been elevated. Despite the potential for a stronger narrative, Basi Reddy Rana fails to fully utilize it. The story is quite simple, and the screenplay follows a very conventional path.
Ultimately, the film suffers from a weak plot and underwhelming key scenes in the second half, which significantly hinder its appeal.
Technical Aspects:
On the technical front, while the director attempts to effectively present the crime scenes and the climactic action, it doesn’t quite work. The script itself is lacking, and Lijo K Josh’s background score is just average. However, the cinematography by Chinna Ram is a plus, with several scenes being visually appealing. The editing is satisfactory, and producer Narendra Buchireddy has clearly invested in the film without compromising on quality, reflected in the high production values.
Verdict:
Hide and Seek doesn’t succeed in captivating its audience. While a few crime elements are passable, the lack of an engaging narrative, slow pacing, and the dull execution of the gaming backdrop significantly hurt the film. Overall, it fails to connect with the audience.
