“Raayan” marks Dhanush’s 50th film as an actor and his second directorial venture. Released in cinemas today with moderate expectations, this review delves into its performance.
Story:
Kaartavaraayan, also known as Raayan (Dhanush), leads a peaceful life in Anjanaouram with his brothers Muthuvelaraayan (Sundeep Kishan), Maanikyaraayan (Kalidas Jayaram), and sister Durga (Dushara Vijayan). Their tranquility is disrupted when Muthu clashes with the local don Dorai’s (Saravanan) men, sparking a dangerous rivalry. Another gangster, Sethuram (SJ Suryah), enters the scene with a deadly plan to eliminate Raayan. What motivates Sethuram’s vendetta? Who is Raayan really, and what is his true mission? The film gradually reveals these mysteries.
Positives:
Expectations were high for Dhanush’s directorial effort. Alongside his powerful acting, Dhanush also shows his directing capabilities effectively.
Sundeep Kishan plays a significant role and excels with his portrayal of a complex character. His scenes with Dhanush and Aparna Balamurali stand out.
Dushara Vijayan surprises with a strong performance, especially in the second half. SJ Suryah delivers an outstanding performance as expected. Aparna Balamurali, Selvaraghavan, and others perform well in their roles.
